“Breathe the Air, Feel the Sunshine!”
Recently while painting the French Broad River at the Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC, a father and son duo on bikes stopped to watch me. The son, about 10, stared at my canvas which was covered with primary blobs and dashes, the way I frequently begin my paintings, subsequently covered with more muted colors which make it more intelligible. The father asked, “How do you make your color decisions?”
And I answered, “I imagine the landscape like a black and white photograph and then imaging the sun’s rays sweeping across it diffracted like a prism, and then a lot of it is just playing with color.”
