Beach Reverie

16 x 20″ oil, wax and marble dust on linen covered panel. Currently on display at Starry Night Gallery

This work, “Beach Reverie”, explores themes of community and solitude in a place designed for escape. The beach is envisioned as both a physical place and a state of being—a liminal space where the ordinary becomes extraordinary under the same vast sky.

The heavy, textured layers of paint mirror the buildup of sand, salt, and memory; vibrant blues, corals, and golds push against one another to evoke the heat, humidity, and fleeting moments of summer days. Figures are rendered loosely, impressionistically, allowing viewers to project their own stories onto the scene.

Foregrounded is a figure caught in a moment of metaphysical introspection—aloof from the surrounding performance of hedonism, yet embodying the dignity of labor and service amid the chaos of reconstructed identities. This quiet detachment does not contradict the beach’s democratic pause. In this living, breathing space full of life, light, and connection, solitude and community are not opposites but interdependent. One person’s stillness anchors the vitality of the many, revealing how true togetherness allows space for being alone.
